Summer dance for littles and adults

We felt that she warmed us up so well, that we felt completely prepared to begin her carefully designed circuit training.  She watched our form closely, and was sure to let us know if our form was incorrect so we won’t cause any injuries.  Aubree made sure we understood the exercises before we began so we knew exactly what to do. She made us feel comfortable and encouraged us to keep pushing ourselves! We left this class optimistic and feeling fantastic.  We felt like we got a great workout without feeling completely drained.

Chop Chop Girl Changed the Way We Eat

Our Health & Fitness week continues with a gem we found that you’re going to love!

Do you like the idea of meal prep but it’s just SO expensive or you wonder if doing it yourself will be time consuming and again… expensive?  Well those are the thoughts we have always had but since we’ve been trying extra hard this past year to live and eat healthier, we decided it was time to put it to the test.

My grandparents taught me how to garden and bottle fresh produce and I guess the mason jar habit has come full circle! These beautiful mason jar meal preps are nutritious, appealing, beautiful and so convenient! They can be transported like traditional meal preps and the pint jars fit perfectly into a car cup holder. I take them to the gym and when driving soccer carpool regularly! Currently I hold Meal Prep Club Sessions in the Yale/Harvard area approximately every other Saturday. Individuals sign up online and pay $20 to save their spot and reserve a set of fresh mason jars (which they get to keep). CHOPCHOPGirl creates the menu, does the shopping, and equips the kitchen for the session. Recipes and diagrams with instructions are provided that day. PREPPERS are assigned a partner upon arrival and together they make one recipe and fill the number of designated jars for the group. Sessions typically a session lasts under 3 hours and cost is about $4/jar. I also help others host meal prep sessions in their own homes. The hostess and I work together on a menu and I leave her with a hostess gift.

So how does it work?

  • Meal Prep Club Sessions in the Salt Lake  area are held approximately every other Saturday.
  • Individuals sign up online and pay $20 to save their spot and reserve a set of fresh mason jars (which you get to keep).
  • CHOP CHOP Girl creates the menu, does the shopping, and equips the kitchen for the session.
  • Recipes and diagrams with instructions are provided that day.
  • PREPPERS are assigned a partner upon arrival and together they make one recipe and fill the number of designated jars for the group.
  • Sessions typically last under 3 hours and cost is about $4/jar. (You pay more than that for fast food that isn’t great for you!)
  • She also has an option for you to host your own meal prep group (like we did with mom, sisters & our aunt).  It was so awesome!  The kids played and we got to make healthy meals for our homes.

We really love that Paige taught us how to cook so that it’s healthy and how easy it can be to work together.  We assembled 4 different meals and a total of  60 jars.  Our goal for the class was to make lunches for us and our spouses.  The kids take a lunch to school but we often just don’t eat well on the go and our spouses get fast food when we haven’t packed a lunch the night before (which rarely happens so….).  This way, we made lunches in mason jars that we can just grab and go all week long.

Eyebrow Microblading from a Pro

Because we are totally into eyebrows, we wanted to learn more about microblading.  We went to pro, Eliza Guzy, for all the things we needed to know, and then Samantha the brave one tried it out.

We love the before and after pic!   Here is the step by step process from the appointment.

MICROBLADING STEP 1: Consult/Shape

Pro Eliza Guzy-

“We start your appointment by discussing all your wants and addressing any potential concerns or questions. We will snap a few before pictures, go over some quick paperwork, and begin designing your brow shape exactly how you want. Your shape is drawn with a wax pencil, so it’s very easy to make changes. The goal is to ensure you feel completely confident in both the color and the shape. This consult could take 20 minutes or 2 hours, as much time as you need to be excited about moving forward. :)
For Sami’s consultation, we went over the clean shape that she wanted. She didn’t like how far in towards her nose she had let her brows go. Another point that we tried to fill in was through her arch and tail. Naturally, most of us do not have much of a tail, filling this in helps open our eye sockets beautifully.”

MICROBLADING STEP 2: Numbing

“Everyone’s first question to me is, “Does it hurt?!” I always chuckle and say NO! I use two types of topical numbing on your brows throughout the full blading process. If you ever feel you need more numbing, just let me know and we can add more as we go!
Sami was not worried about the pain, she said she is tough, and that she is! We added no additional numbing, and it went smoothly and pain free.”

MICROBLADING STEP 3: Blading

“The fun begins! A single use hand tool is used to create the strokes and deposit the pigment. I keep the pigment cup on my finger at all times and use my free hand to pull the skin taut so the strokes are deposited precisely. I move slowly and steadily to assure the hair strokes are being placed correctly and to ensure you are comfortable along the way.
Skin type will help determine which type and size of blade I will move forward with. Sami had standard to dry skin. We started with a regular 12 FLEX blade and moved on to a smaller 11 blade halfway through for the inner, smaller strokes.”

MICROBLADING STEP 4: Finishing Touches

“Once the majority of strokes have been deposited, I will have you sit up to remeasure your corners and shape to verify your brows are looking On Point! Then we are ready to finish, and I apply the pigment over your brows for 10 minutes or so. This helps give the fresh strokes the perfect coat of color.
Up, down, up down, up down… those last 20 minutes or so I sat Sami up multiple times to get all our edges and corners and make sure we were perfectly even. Once I loved where we were, I deposited the pigment over her brows for 10 minutes. While the pigment was sitting in, I went over the aftercare process with Sami.”

MICROBLADING STEP 5: Aftercare

“Following proper aftercare instructions is the most important of all! I believe in a dry heal. This means no water, no sweating or over heating. Take baths, low intensity workouts, and sunglasses/hats when outside!  I will give you a special cream to apply to your brows 3-5 times a day during the two week healing period. The more oily you naturally are, the less times during the day you need to apply. You follow these strict aftercare instructions for 2 weeks and then you are good to go until your touch up!
Following the aftercare is the hardest, but also the most important! Sami did really well. She got a little itchy and flakey, which is totally normal. I give everyone a day to day breakdown of what will happen with their brows. Everyone’s skin turns over at such a different rate that you will fall somewhere between the given days. Days 2-5 after procedure, your color will darken. Don’t be alarmed, you will fade 40-50% from the darkest point. Days 5-10 post procedure you will start to flake and itch. The cream I give you will help a lot with this. Don’t pick! Let them naturally flake. Week 3 post procedure, the color almost feels like it completely disappears and the full process didn’t work. Don’t be alarmed! Color will resurface that 4th week. This is why I wait a minimum of 4 weeks to do the touchup. I want to see exactly what pigment retention we have and where we need to add more strokes etc.”

MICROBLADING STEP 6: Touchup

“4-6 weeks after your initial appointment we will do a touchup (perfecting) session. This is where we can make minor changes to shape and color. Most people always ask to go darker at the touchup! Depending on your skin type will determine how long you can go before your next touchup. Oily skin will need a touchup sooner than later, around 9-12 months. Normal skin will last 12-18 months. Dryer, aged skin will retain the longest.”

 

Here’s what we have to say about this.  First of all, do research when it comes to your microblading expert.  See their work, ask lots of questions and be comfortable with them since this is a semi-permanent procedure that will last for a couple years.  Eliza really impressed us and Sami’s brows look beautiful.

2nd, make sure you feel comfortable and confident about your color and shape.  Just because you find a photo of brows you love, it doesn’t mean that it’s best for your face.  The last thing you want are fake looking brows.  Fit them to your face.

Fall fashion Tips

If you ask me Fall is the best time of year. With it’s cool crisp mornings and warm days, it doesn’t get much better than that, except Fall style! I’ve been loving all of the trends and styles this season.

The wide brimmed hat! I love the look these hats add to any outfit. With so many styles to choose from you’re sure to find a hat to fit your style and personality.

I’m a big fan of dark colors, I love how versatile this black baby doll top is, I’ve noticed that this style is huge right now, the loose fit and flow is super flattering. And I’m loving the deep colored jeans, especially this deep burgundy jean. These colors are pretty and classic for Fall.

Dark florals are huge for Fall. Who says florals are just a Summer trend? The dark hues I’ve seen around are just beautiful. I love flowers all year round!

Mustard is also a great color choice for Fall. I love the extra little details in this shirt. Colors like rust, mustard, pumpkin orange and burgundy is really popular right now.

Booties! No more trying to find a pair of knee length boots that fit your legs, booties are for everyone. Pair your floral dress with booties, the perfect Fall accessory!

Blanket scarfs are another huge Fall staple this year. There are so many different ways to wear your scarf and they keep you really warm on those chilly nights!

In Love with Anthropologie’s Fall Line

This week we visited one of our favorite stores.  Anthropologie has an array of beautiful fall and winter clothing that was just being displayed as we were there.

Brittany is wearing a crisp, white Tie-Front Button Down blouse.  The Wintertide Poncho Vest is soft and warm and you can wear it just about anywhere.  In the photo below, the Draped Jacquard Duster Poncho is reversible and the only problem is figuring out what side is more beautiful!
